(Lafayette,
LA) – If you’re pretty good at
catching beads from a Mardi Gras float, you just may be lucky enough to win
yourself a trip to Las Vegas
this year.
The
Krewe of Carnivale en Rio will host its first
ever “Trip-to-the-Rio” Contest during its popular Rio Parada. The parade rolls
through the streets of Lafayette
on Saturday, January 26, 2008, ten days before Mardi Gras.
“Our krewe had
1,000 medallion beads made especially for this contest,”announced Don
Landry, president of the krewe. “If you catch one along our parade route, you peel away a
sticker on the medallion to find out if you’re a finalist for the trip.”
The contest bead is a red bead with a large white medallion. One side sports the Sterling Imports logo while the other side has the peel-away sticker.
Lucky finalists must
then redeem their specially marked beads at radio station KSMB for
a gift bag of
Rio souvenirs and to get their
names in the Trip-to-the-Rio drawing. The drawing
will be held on Friday morning, February 1, broadcast live on KSMB. The winner
will receive a trip for two to the Rio Resort in LasVegas, a prize package which includes
hotel, airfare and other amenities.
Sponsoring the contest
is Sterling Automotive Group, which sells the Kia Rio.
“We sell a quality product called ‘Rio’, we’re sending a lucky winner to the Las Vegas Rio and we’re happy to support the Krewe of Rio, a terrific community organization,“ said Art LeBlanc, president
of Sterling. “All around, it’s good for Mardi Gras tourism in Acadiana.” Partners
in promoting the contest are Citadel Broadcasting and Harrah’s LasVegas.
The 650-member
Krewe of Carnivale en Rio was founded in
Lafayette
in 2005. The krewe
holds a ball, parade and socials annually. More information about the krewe, its upcoming
parade and contest are available on the krewe’s web site at
