The Krewe of Carnivale en Rio was formed in Lafayette, Louisiana in 2005 by a group of Mardi Gras-loving friends, all of whom were well seasoned in staging Mardi Gras madness in the Acadiana area. Invitations were sent out to friends and relatives to become one of the 495 charter members of this new krewe. A "Rio de Janeiro" theme was chosen for all the opportunities it would present for eye-popping costumes, heart-pounding music and fantastico Latin-style fun.
In the krewe's first year, it held three major events: a Brazilian Sambada in the fall, its Rio Ball in early January and the exciting Rio Parada ten days before Mardi Gras. The krewe continues to hold all three fantastic events.
